Oaking here was 20% in older French 225 litre barriques, giving a savoury dusting to the dark berry and plum fruit. But there’s a lot more going on; a gentle herbaceous top note, even a hint of vanilla. The succulent palate is smoothly rounded, carrying the berry fruit to a satisfyingly luscious conclusion. Has good palate weight, round and full. A wine of character and enjoyment – yet there’s just enough grip for some ageing or to match with food.

Niel Joubert Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with Creamy beef fillet tagliatelle with parmigiano, Grilled beef fillet served with seasonal vegetables and baby potatoes or Pan-fried ostrich fillet served with spaetzle.
