D.W. Syrah was awarded Platinum – Best in Category – with 97 Points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2018 in London. The Decanter World Wine Awards is one of the world’s largest and most influential international wine competitions judged by the top wine experts, Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers from around the world. D.W. Syrah was one of 17,000 wines entered into this year’s competition. Syrah and Shiraz are two different names for the same grape varietal. Traditionally Syrah is elegant and restrained, reminiscent of Old World Rhone-style Syrah, and shows seductive perfumed aromas with notes of white pepper spice. Shiraz is intense in flavour with vibrant fruit and black pepper spice, a style popular in New World wine regions like South Africa and Australia
A wine that is in essence, feminine, powerful, influential and effortlessly sophisticated. Fresh black cherry, raspberry and rose petal on the nose with light spice and elegant sage. The palate is pure and nicely polished showing opulent cassis and plum enrobed in herbal freshness. White pepper spice that ever so pleasantly lingers on the palate which tapers to a dry finish. This classy elixir will be enhanced with ageing.
D.W. Syrah is dedicated to the visionary who first founded Uva Mira Estate, Des Weedon, his wife Denise, the matriarch, and their grandson Derrick, who gave the Estate its Latin name.
